Project Scope

The new owner of High Tide Inn in Camden, Maine was looking to update their online presence for easier use and to attract more customers. The website had not been updated since the 90’s and was not mobile friendly. The heirarchy of information was confusing and overall did not correctly represent the beautiful, quaint oceanside Inn.

  • The owner shared that the logo was similar to an old sign on the property, and that he wanted to keep the spirit of the traditional sign but have an updated logo going forward. I got to work on Procreate trying different fonts and incorporating the old logo’s elements in different ways.

  • Since the Inn has no current brand guidelines, I started from scratch with a moodboard to define a feel for the brand. I chose costal images that were minimal in design. I next narrowed down the brand colors to navy, red, and creme for a nautical feel. I also added in a green and lighter blue shade to symbolize the nature elements in Maine.

  • With no current social media presence, I knew a well designed Instagram profile was much needed for the Inn. I chose to keep the feed image-focused and created some story templates for the company to use in the future. I chose very nature-focused images since that is the main attraction of the Inn.

  • I created a homepage website design in Figma for my next step. I used my color palette and new logo and brought in images from the older website. I took inspiration from some of my favorite boutique hotel websites and looked at competitor of the Inn for market research.

  • Months after completing the branding process, I visited the Inn to photograph the grounds. Previous site photography was low quality and lacked personality. I kept in mind that I wanted to capture the charm of the place while photographing.

  • I love taking well-designed souvenirs home from trips, so I wanted to design some merch for the Inn for guests to purchase and take home. I made some drawings of the inn, shells and other symbols and assembled them with logos onto a shirt and tote. I used the navy brand color on creme colored fabric for a classic, nautical look.
